| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Our communities draw immeasurable strength from |

| 6 | 7 | | organizations like Volunteer McKinney, whose work in behalf of area |

| 7 | 8 | | citizens has contributed significantly to the quality of life in |

| 8 | 9 | | McKinney; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Since 1998, Volunteer McKinney has been connecting |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | area volunteers with nonprofit organizations so that they might |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | work together to help the city become an even better place in which |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | to live; through community events, such as McKinney Make a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Difference and the Spirit of McKinney, and speaking engagements at |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | schools, churches, fairs, and more, the group recruits over 7,800 |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | volunteers each year and partners them with more than 90 nonprofit |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | agencies in the North Texas region; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, During 2014, Volunteer McKinney leaders joined with |

| 18 | 19 | | the McKinney Police Department to produce a volunteer safety |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | training program; they also delivered a presentation on the basics |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | of volunteer management at the Texas Volunteer Management |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Conference and spoke at 58 events; the group provided volunteers |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | for many occasions, including McKinney Oktoberfest, the Parade of |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Lights, and the Texas Trash-Off, and some of the numerous |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | organizations that have received support are the American Red |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Cross, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Collin County, the SPCA of Texas, |

| 26 | 27 | | the Heart of Gold Foundation, and the McKinney Public Library |

| 27 | 28 | | System; and |

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, For the past 17 years, Volunteer McKinney has made a |

| 29 | 30 | | positive difference in the lives of countless Texans, and it is |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | indeed most fitting to recognize the organization for its |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 1, 2015, as Volunteer McKinney |

| 34 | 35 | | Day at the State Capitol and commend all involved with the group for |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | their service to Texas; and, be it further |

| 36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
