45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The Hardin County Commissioners Court has passed a
67 resolution providing for a plaque bearing the inscription "In God
78 We Trust" to be placed in the commissioners courtroom in Kountze;
89 and
910 WHEREAS, On February 9, 2015, the commissioners unanimously
1011 approved the motion, and their decision was met with jubilant
1112 cheers from a throng of local citizens in support of the measure;
1213 and
1314 WHEREAS, The phrase "In God We Trust" has a long-standing
1415 history in the United States dating back to the Civil War, when it
1516 began appearing on U.S. coins in response to popular demand; those
1617 words were formally adopted as the national motto by Congress in
1718 1956, and our national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner," also
1819 proclaims "in God is our trust"; and
1920 WHEREAS, The display of "In God We Trust" is a fitting tribute
2021 to the principles on which our nation was founded and to the
2122 enduring beliefs and traditions that have helped shape our shared
2223 heritage; now, therefore, be it
2324 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
2425 Legislature hereby commend the Hardin County Commissioners Court
2526 for exhibiting the motto "In God We Trust" in the commissioners
2627 courtroom; and, be it further
2728 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2829 prepared for the commissioners court as an expression of high
2930 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
