| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Hardin County Commissioners Court has passed a |

| 6 | 7 | | resolution providing for a plaque bearing the inscription "In God |

| 7 | 8 | | We Trust" to be placed in the commissioners courtroom in Kountze; |

|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, On February 9, 2015, the commissioners unanimously |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | approved the motion, and their decision was met with jubilant |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | cheers from a throng of local citizens in support of the measure; |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The phrase "In God We Trust" has a long-standing |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | history in the United States dating back to the Civil War, when it |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | began appearing on U.S. coins in response to popular demand; those |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | words were formally adopted as the national motto by Congress in |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | 1956, and our national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner," also |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | proclaims "in God is our trust"; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The display of "In God We Trust" is a fitting tribute |

| 20 | 21 | | to the principles on which our nation was founded and to the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | enduring beliefs and traditions that have helped shape our shared |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | heritage; now, therefore, be it |

| 23 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 24 | 25 | | Legislature hereby commend the Hardin County Commissioners Court |

| 25 | 26 | | for exhibiting the motto "In God We Trust" in the commissioners |
