| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, In 1910, citizens selected Crosbyton as the county |

| 9 | 10 | | seat; disputes over the election were finally resolved two years |

| 10 | 11 | | later, and the commissioners began planning the construction of a |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | courthouse on a site donated by one of the city's founders, Julian |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Bassett; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Fort Worth architect M. L. Waller designed the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | building in the neoclassical style; its front elevation features a |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | full-height entry with a triangular pediment supported by columns, |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | and the edifice was completed by contractor S. Goodrum in late |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | 1914; and |

| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In its first decade, the courthouse was the site of |

| 19 | 20 | | an infamous murder carried out on its very steps, claiming the lives |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | of two victims who were themselves attempted murder defendants; the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | centennial festivities featured a reenactment of the notorious |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | event, along with tours, a parade, storytelling, and other |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | activities; since 2000, the courthouse has been recognized by the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Texas Historical Commission as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark; |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The Crosby County Courthouse has played an important |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial of the Crosby County |

| 33 | 34 | | anniversary celebrations for their noteworthy efforts. |
