| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Members of the clergy dedicate themselves to the |

| 8 | 9 | | has long demonstrated his commitment to that worthy goal; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Pastor McMullen became an ordained deacon while |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | stationed in Erlangen, Germany, with the United States military; |

| 11 | 12 | | after returning home, he preached his first sermon in 1978, and on |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | January 21, 1980, he established Bible Way Missionary Baptist; |

| 13 | 14 | | under his steady guidance, the church has acquired a 14-acre campus |

| 14 | 15 | | and constructed both a sanctuary and an education building; Pastor |

| 15 | 16 | | McMullen has also overseen the formation of ministries that provide |

| 16 | 17 | | critical support to the church and its mission and that offer |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | members of the congregation welcome opportunities for fellowship |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | and spiritual growth; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In addition to playing an instrumental role in the |

| 20 | 21 | | growth and development of Bible Way MBC, Pastor McMullen has given |

| 21 | 22 | | freely of his time and talents to a number of denominational and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | clerical organizations; he is past president of the Bell County |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Ministerial Alliance of Killeen/Copperas Cove and past chair of the |

| 24 | 25 | | Evangelical Board of the Good Hope Western District Association of |

| 25 | 26 | | Waco, and he is a member of several mission boards; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, This civic-minded leader also founded the Copperas |

| 27 | 28 | | Cove Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Committee, which has |

| 28 | 29 | | organized an annual march and commemoration service since 1999; at |

| 29 | 30 | | the January 2013 service, Pastor McMullen was honored by the |

| 30 | 31 | | Greater Killeen Pastors Fellowship with its first Soldier of |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | Freedom Award; and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Pastor McMullen was born in Eupora, Mississippi, and |

| 33 | 34 | | graduated from Eupora High School; he went on to earn a bachelor's |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | degree in social science and history and a bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | criminal justice and rehabilitation services; he received his |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | master's degree in divinity from Southwest Baptist Theological |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | Seminary, where he is currently a doctoral candidate in theology |

| 39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Pastor McMullen enjoys the |

| 40 | 41 | | love and support of his wife, Anne, and their son, Shawn DeMeras |

| 42 | 43 | | WHEREAS, Success in leading a church requires a tremendous |

| 43 | 44 | | commitment of time, an ability to inspire congregants through words |

| 44 | 45 | | and deeds, and an unwavering belief in the importance of faith, and |

| 45 | 46 | | Pastor Shannon McMullen truly exemplifies the highest standards of |

| 46 | 47 | | his vocation; now, therefore, be it |

| 47 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
