45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Prairie View A&M University lost a beloved member of
67 its community with the passing of Dr. Waymon T. Webster on February
78 16, 2015, at the age of 87; and
89 WHEREAS, Born on July 29, 1927, in Hearne to John and Mary
910 Webster, Waymon Webster graduated from Blackshear High School and
1011 went on to serve his country as a member of the U.S. Army; upon the
1112 completion of his military service, he enrolled at Prairie View A&M
1213 University, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in
1314 music; he later attended the University of North Dakota and Texas
1415 A&M University, where he received his doctorate in educational
1516 psychology; he began his career at the secondary level, working as
1617 the band instructor at Kemp High School for more than a decade; and
1718 WHEREAS, Dr. Webster joined the faculty at Prairie View A&M
1819 in 1967, and over the course of his exemplary tenure at the school,
1920 he worked diligently in behalf of its students while earning the
2021 admiration and respect of his peers; he held a number of
2122 administrative positions, including dean of the graduate school,
2223 head of the psychology department and the department of counselor
2324 education, and coordinator of the counseling program and counseling
2425 services, and he was a member of the Graduate Council and the
2526 Council of Deans; he also gave freely of his time as an advisor for
2627 Phi Delta Kappa and Chi Sigma Iota; and
2728 WHEREAS, This esteemed academician rendered service far
2829 beyond the bounds of his own campus; as a consultant with the
2930 National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, he helped
3031 to evaluate teacher certification programs at a number of schools
3132 in Texas, as well as at Southern University; he also served as a
3233 board member for Brazos County Counseling Services and as a
3334 consultant for cities across the state; he was licensed in a wide
3435 range of counseling disciplines, and he was affiliated with such
3536 professional organizations as the American Counseling Association
3637 and the American Mental Health Counselors Association; and
3738 WHEREAS, Dr. Webster was frequently recognized for his many
3839 academic and professional contributions; among the accolades
3940 conferred on him were Service Awards from Brazos County Counseling
4041 Services and the Prairie View A&M Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa and
4142 Distinguished Service Awards from Kemp High School and the Veterans
4243 Institute of Prairie View; and
4344 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Waymon Webster enjoyed the
4445 love and support of his wife of 57 years, Bernice Webster; he was
4546 the proud father of three children, Jacques, Travis, and Senora,
4647 and he knew the joy of welcoming seven grandchildren into his
4748 cherished family; a man of many interests, he took great pleasure in
4849 fishing, gardening, listening to jazz, arranging music on his
4950 keyboard, and playing bridge; and
5051 WHEREAS, Although Dr. Webster is greatly missed, he has left
5152 an indelible imprint on the lives of countless individuals, and he
5253 will forever be remembered with deep affection by all who were
5354 privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
5455 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
5556 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Waymon T. Webster
5657 and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
5758 wife, Bernice Webster; to his children and their spouses, Jacques
5859 Webster and his wife, Wanda, Travis Webster and his wife, Debra, and
5960 Senora Sims and her husband, Alan; to his grandchildren, Travette,
6061 Jacques, Tej, Jordan, and Joshua Webster and Akili and Nia Sims; to
6162 his brother, Charles Webster, and his wife, Faye; to his sisters,
6263 Esther Roach and Willie Gentry; and to his other relatives and many
6364 friends; and, be it further
6465 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
6566 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
6667 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Waymon
6768 T. Webster.
