| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Section 27, Article I, Texas Constitution, states |

| 6 | 6 | | "The citizens shall have the right, in a peaceable manner, |

| 7 | 7 | | to . . . apply to those invested with the powers of government for |

| 8 | 8 | | redress of grievances or other purposes, by petition, address or |

| 9 | 9 | | remonstrance"; and |

| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Texas House of Representatives |

| 11 | 11 | | are committed to the right of the citizens of Texas to apply to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | those invested with the powers of government for redress of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | grievances; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The current e-mail addresses for the members and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | staff of the Texas House of Representatives are long, complex, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | difficult to relay verbally, making it more difficult for the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | citizens of Texas to contact their elected representatives; now, |

| 18 | 18 | | therefore, be it |

| 19 | 19 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 20 | 20 | | Legislature hereby request the House Committee on Administration to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | make available to the members and staff of the Texas House of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Representatives e-mail addresses with the top-level domain ".gov" |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and with a domain name substantially similar to "@texashouse.gov"; |

| 24 | 24 | | and, be it further |

| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That if the committee decides to make such e-mail |

| 26 | 26 | | addresses available, the committee decline to use the domain names |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | "@house.tx.gov" and "@house.texas.gov"; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That if the committee decides to make such e-mail |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | addresses available, such e-mail addresses be made available not |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | later than January 1, 2018, and the current e-mail addresses of the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | house be withdrawn from service not later than December 31, 2018. |
