66 AN ACT
77 relating to outreach materials to foster awareness of recent public
88 school curriculum changes.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 28.015 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 28.015. PUBLIC OUTREACH MATERIALS TO PROMOTE
1313 CURRICULUM CHANGE AWARENESS. (a) The agency shall develop uniform
1414 public outreach materials that explain the importance and outline
1515 the details of public school curriculum changes under Chapter 211
1616 (H.B. 5), Acts of the 83rd Legislature, Regular Session, 2013, and
1717 subsequent associated decisions by the State Board of Education.
1818 The agency shall make the materials available to school districts.
1919 (b) The materials developed under this section must:
2020 (1) be available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese;
2121 (2) be in a form that would allow school districts to
2222 mail the information to students and parents; and
2323 (3) include an explanation of:
2424 (A) the basic career and college-readiness
2525 components of each endorsement under Section 28.025(c-1);
2626 (B) the curriculum requirements to gain
2727 automatic college admission under Section 51.803; and
2828 (C) applicable course, graduation plan, and
2929 endorsement requirements for financial aid authorized under Title
3030 3, including curriculum requirements for:
3131 (i) the TEXAS grant as provided under
3232 Subchapter M, Chapter 56;
3333 (ii) the Texas Educational Opportunity
3434 Grant Program as provided under Subchapter P, Chapter 56; and
3535 (iii) the Texas B-On-time loan program as
3636 provided under Subchapter Q, Chapter 56.
3737 (c) This section expires September 1, 2018.
3838 SECTION 2. The Texas Education Agency shall develop the
3939 materials described under Section 28.015, Education Code, as added
4040 by this Act, no later than December 1, 2015.
4141 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
4242 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
4343 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
4444 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
4545 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
