| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 143.117, Local Government Code, is | |
| 11 | 11 | amended by adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (b-1) Notice of the suspension of a fire fighter must be | |
| 13 | 13 | personally served on the fire fighter not later than the 180th day | |
| 14 | 14 | after the date the department discovers or becomes aware of the | |
| 15 | 15 | civil service rule violation for which the fire fighter is | |
| 16 | 16 | suspended. | |
| 17 | 17 | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only | |
| 18 | 18 | to a suspension of a firefighter that occurs on or after the | |
| 19 | 19 | effective date of this Act. | |
| 20 | 20 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
