66 AN ACT
77 relating to the redaction of personally identifiable information of
88 victims from juvenile court records.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 58, Family Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 58.004 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 58.004. REDACTION OF VICTIM'S PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE
1313 INFORMATION. Notwithstanding any other law, before disclosing any
1414 juvenile court record or file of a child as authorized by this
1515 chapter or other law, the custodian of the record or file must
1616 redact any personally identifiable information about a victim of
1717 the child's delinquent conduct or conduct indicating a need for
1818 supervision who was under 18 years of age on the date the conduct
1919 occurred, unless the information is necessary for an agency to
2020 provide services to the victim or for law enforcement purposes.
2121 SECTION 2. This Act applies to information and documents
2222 relating to juvenile court cases without regard to whether the
2323 conduct that is the basis of the case occurred before, on, or after
2424 the effective date of this Act.
2525 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
