| 7 | 7 | | relating to the licensing and regulation of a journeyman lineman. |

| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 1305.002(12), Occupations Code, is |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (12) "Journeyman lineman" means an individual who |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | engages in electrical work involving the installation, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | maintenance, and operation of equipment associated with the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | transmission and distribution of electricity from the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | electricity's original source to a substation and from a substation |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | for further distribution. |

| 17 | 17 | | SECTION 2. Section 1305.1605(a), Occupations Code, is |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (a) An applicant for a license as a journeyman lineman must: |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (1) have at least: |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (A) 7,000 hours of training in an apprenticeship |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | program approved by the United States Department of Labor; or |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (B) 3-1/2 years of experience as a journeyman |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | lineman for an electric utility, electric cooperative, municipally |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | owned utility, or electrical contractor in this state; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (2) pass a journeyman lineman examination |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | administered under this chapter based primarily on information |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | contained in The Lineman's and Cableman's Handbook. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | SECTION 3. Section 1305.1605(a), Occupations Code, as |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | amended by this Act, applies only to an examination for a journeyman |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | lineman license administered on or after the effective date of this |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Act. An examination for a journeyman lineman license administered |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | before that date is governed by the law in effect on the date the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | examination was administered, and the former law is continued in |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
