66 AN ACT
77 relating to the licensing and regulation of a journeyman lineman.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 1305.002(12), Occupations Code, is
1010 amended to read as follows:
1111 (12) "Journeyman lineman" means an individual who
1212 engages in electrical work involving the installation,
1313 maintenance, and operation of equipment associated with the
1414 transmission and distribution of electricity from the
1515 electricity's original source to a substation and from a substation
1616 for further distribution.
1717 SECTION 2. Section 1305.1605(a), Occupations Code, is
1818 amended to read as follows:
1919 (a) An applicant for a license as a journeyman lineman must:
2020 (1) have at least:
2121 (A) 7,000 hours of training in an apprenticeship
2222 program approved by the United States Department of Labor; or
2323 (B) 3-1/2 years of experience as a journeyman
2424 lineman for an electric utility, electric cooperative, municipally
2525 owned utility, or electrical contractor in this state; and
2626 (2) pass a journeyman lineman examination
2727 administered under this chapter based primarily on information
2828 contained in The Lineman's and Cableman's Handbook.
2929 SECTION 3. Section 1305.1605(a), Occupations Code, as
3030 amended by this Act, applies only to an examination for a journeyman
3131 lineman license administered on or after the effective date of this
3232 Act. An examination for a journeyman lineman license administered
3333 before that date is governed by the law in effect on the date the
3434 examination was administered, and the former law is continued in
3535 effect for that purpose.
3636 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
