| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. The heading to Section 25.0024, Government Code, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | is amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 25.0024. COURT COORDINATORS, COURT ADMINISTRATORS |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | [ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANTS], AND AUDITORS FOR STATUTORY PROBATE |

| 14 | 14 | | COURTS. |

| 15 | 15 | | SECTION 2. Section 25.0024(a), Government Code, is amended |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (a) A judge of a statutory probate court shall hire with the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | approval of the commissioners court through the county budget |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | process a court coordinator, a court administrator [an |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | administrative assistant], and an auditor for the court. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 3. Section 25.1034(i), Government Code, is amended |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (i) With the approval of the commissioners court, a judge of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | a statutory probate court may appoint a court administrator [an |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | administrative assistant], a court coordinator, an auditor, and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | other staff necessary for the operation of the courts. The |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | commissioners court, with the advice and counsel of the judges, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | sets the salaries of the staff. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | SECTION 4. Section 25.2293(j), Government Code, is amended |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (j) The judge of a statutory probate court may appoint a |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | court administrator [an administrative assistant] and an auditor to |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | aid the judge in the performance of his duties. The judge sets the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | salary of the court administrator [administrative assistant] and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | the salary of the auditor by an order entered in the minutes of the |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | court. The appointments and the salaries may be changed only by |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | order of the judge. The salaries of the auditor and the court |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | administrator [administrative assistant] shall be paid monthly out |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | of the county's general fund or any other fund available for that |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | purpose. |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | SECTION 5. On the effective date of this Act a person |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | serving as an administrative assistant in a statutory probate court |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | continues service as a court administrator in the statutory probate |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | court unless otherwise removed as provided by law. |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | SECTION 6. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 48 | 48 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 49 | 49 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
