| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter J, Chapter 21, Education Code, is | |
| 11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 21.464 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 21.464. PREKINDERGARTEN TEACHER TRAINING COURSE. (a) | |
| 13 | 13 | The commissioner shall develop a prekindergarten teacher training | |
| 14 | 14 | course to be offered to prekindergarten teachers employed by a | |
| 15 | 15 | school district or open-enrollment charter school. | |
| 16 | 16 | (b) A course provided under this section shall provide | |
| 17 | 17 | instruction in the development and operation of effective | |
| 18 | 18 | prekindergarten classes, including training in: | |
| 19 | 19 | (1) the prekindergarten guidelines established by the | |
| 20 | 20 | agency; | |
| 21 | 21 | (2) effective and systematic instructional techniques | |
| 22 | 22 | for teaching prekindergarten students using the prekindergarten | |
| 23 | 23 | guidelines; and | |
| 24 | 24 | (3) designing and implementing a comprehensive | |
| 25 | 25 | curriculum in the classroom. | |
| 26 | 26 | (c) The commissioner shall contract with each regional | |
| 27 | 27 | education service center to provide the prekindergarten teacher | |
| 28 | 28 | training course developed under this section. | |
| 29 | 29 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
