| 6 | 6 | | relating to the creation of a coverage summary for certain property |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and casualty insurance policies. |

| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 521.005(a), Insurance Code, is amended |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (2) the department's name and address; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (3) the department's toll-free telephone number maintained |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | under Subchapter B; and. |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (4) a coverage summary or other informational material to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | help consumers understand the insurance policy offered or |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | purchased. |

| 17 | 17 | | SECTION 2. Section 521.005, Insurance Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | add the following: |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (c) The commissioner may adopt by rule requirements for a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | coverage summary or other informational material. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (d) Subsections (a) (4) and (c) apply to an insurer, as |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | defined in Section 38.002, and a farm mutual insurance company, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | writing personal automobile or homeowners insurance as defined in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Section 2301.051 in this state, and their agents. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 3. This Act applies only to an insurance policy that |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | is delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed on or after January 1, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | 2016. A policy delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed before |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | January 1, 2016, is governed by the law as it existed immediately |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | before the effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect January 1, 2016. |
