| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Sections 775.002(a) and (b), Government Code, | |
| 11 | 11 | are amended to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a) Contingent on the legislature's appropriation of | |
| 13 | 13 | sufficient funds, the Department of Agriculture shall [The governor | |
| 14 | 14 | may] designate an office within the department to focus on matters | |
| 15 | 15 | relating to colonias. The designated office shall [an agency to] | |
| 16 | 16 | act as the state's colonia initiatives coordinator. | |
| 17 | 17 | (b) The [If appointed under Subsection (a), the] colonia | |
| 18 | 18 | initiatives coordinator shall coordinate colonia initiatives | |
| 19 | 19 | within the Department of Agriculture [agency] and with the other | |
| 20 | 20 | agencies and local officials involved in colonia projects in the | |
| 21 | 21 | state. | |
| 22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 23 | 23 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 24 | 24 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 25 | 25 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 26 | 26 | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
