7 | 7 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
8 | 8 | SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 151, Tax Code, is amended | |
9 | 9 | by adding Section 151.3275 to read as follows: | |
10 | 10 | Sec. 151.3275. MEMORIAL DAY SALES TAX HOLIDAY. (a) The | |
11 | 11 | sale of any item is exempted from the taxes imposed by this code if: | |
12 | 12 | (1) the total sales price is $25,000 or less; and | |
13 | 13 | (2) the sale takes place during a period beginning at | |
14 | 14 | 12:01 a.m. on the Saturday before the last Monday in May and ending | |
15 | 15 | at 12 midnight on that Monday. | |
16 | 16 | (b) For any purchase of more than $25,000, the amount above | |
17 | 17 | $25,000 is subject to taxes imposed by this code at half of their | |
18 | 18 | normal rate if the sale takes place during a period beginning at | |
19 | 19 | 12:01 a.m. on the Saturday before the last Monday in May and ending | |
20 | 20 | at 12 midnight on that Monday. | |
21 | 21 | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act does not | |
22 | 22 | affect taxes imposed before the effective date of this Act, and the | |
23 | 23 | law in effect before the effective date of this Act is continued in | |
24 | 24 | effect for purposes of the liability for and collection of those | |
25 | 25 | taxes. | |
26 | 26 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
