66 relating to the Memorial Day weekend sales tax exemption period.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 151, Tax Code, is amended
99 by adding Section 151.3275 to read as follows:
1010 Sec. 151.3275. MEMORIAL DAY SALES TAX HOLIDAY. (a) The
1111 sale of any item is exempted from the taxes imposed by this code if:
1212 (1) the total sales price is $25,000 or less; and
1313 (2) the sale takes place during a period beginning at
1414 12:01 a.m. on the Saturday before the last Monday in May and ending
1515 at 12 midnight on that Monday.
1616 (b) For any purchase of more than $25,000, the amount above
1717 $25,000 is subject to taxes imposed by this code at half of their
1818 normal rate if the sale takes place during a period beginning at
1919 12:01 a.m. on the Saturday before the last Monday in May and ending
2020 at 12 midnight on that Monday.
2121 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act does not
2222 affect taxes imposed before the effective date of this Act, and the
2323 law in effect before the effective date of this Act is continued in
2424 effect for purposes of the liability for and collection of those
2525 taxes.
2626 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
