1010 AN ACT
1111 relating to the designation of May as Postpartum Depression
1212 Awareness Month.
1313 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1414 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 662, Government Code, is
1515 amended by adding Section 662.110 to read as follows:
1616 Sec. 662.110. POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION AWARENESS MONTH.
1717 (a) May is Postpartum Depression Awareness Month to increase
1818 awareness of postpartum depression and to encourage:
1919 (1) the identification of signs, symptoms, and
2020 treatment options for postpartum depression;
2121 (2) the creation and update of lists of recommended
2222 materials for perinatal mental health available through the
2323 Department of State Health Services and the Health and Human
2424 Services Commission;
2525 (3) electronic circulation of and posting on state and
2626 local agency websites of recommended postpartum depression
2727 resources;
2828 (4) mothers-to-be and new mothers to be screened for
2929 postpartum depression using validated survey instruments; and
3030 (5) collaboration between governmental agencies,
3131 educational institutions, hospitals, private health care
3232 practices, health insurance providers, Medicaid providers, and
3333 mental health agencies to increase awareness of postpartum
3434 affective illness.
3535 (b) Postpartum Depression Awareness Month shall be
3636 regularly observed through appropriate programs and activities to
3737 increase awareness of postpartum depression.
3838 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
