8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 12.0127, Health and Safety Code, is | |
10 | 10 | amended by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: | |
11 | 11 | (c) To the extent allowed by federal law, the department | |
12 | 12 | shall provide an equal opportunity to request a waiver of the | |
13 | 13 | foreign country residence requirement for a qualified alien | |
14 | 14 | physician who agrees to practice medicine in: | |
15 | 15 | (1) a medically underserved area; or | |
16 | 16 | (2) a health professional shortage area. | |
17 | 17 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
18 | 18 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
19 | 19 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
20 | 20 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
21 | 21 | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
