66 AN ACT
77 relating to a vacancy in the office of a member of the legislature
88 on final conviction of a felony.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Chapter 301, Government Code, is amended by
1111 adding Subchapter Z to read as follows:
1212 SUBCHAPTER Z. MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS
1313 Sec. 301.901. VACANCY ON FINAL FELONY CONVICTION OF MEMBER
1414 OF LEGISLATURE. A member of the legislature convicted of a felony
1515 vacates the member's office on the date the conviction becomes
1616 final.
1717 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1818 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1919 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2020 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2121 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
