44 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
55 AN ACT
66 relating to the promotion of tourism related to the musical
77 heritage of this state.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Chapter 442, Government Code, is amended by
1010 adding Section 422.019 to read as follows:
1111 Section 442.019 TEXAS MUSIC HISTORY TRAIL. (a) The
1212 commission shall develop a Texas Music History Trail program to
1313 promote and preserve Texas music history.
1414 (b) The program, at minimum, shall include:
1515 (1) designation of locations or organizations
1616 that are historically significant to this state's musical heritage;
1717 (2) adoption of an icon, symbol, or other
1818 identifying device to represent a designation under this section;
1919 (3) the use of the icon, symbol, or other
2020 identifying device in promoting tourism around this state by the
2121 commission and at locations and by organization designated under
2222 this section; and
2323 (4) the development of itineraries and maps to
2424 guide tourists to locations or organizations designated under this
2525 section.
2626 (c) The commission shall adopt:
2727 (1) eligibility criteria for a designation under
2828 this section; and
2929 (2) procedures to administer the program created
3030 under this section.
3131 (d) The commission may, as necessary, enter into a
3232 memorandum of understanding with the Economic Development and
3333 Tourism Office of the Governor, Texas Film Commission of the Arts,
3434 Texas Music Office of the Governor and the Texas Department of
3535 Transportation to implement this section.
3636 (e) The commission may solicit and accept gifts, grants, and
3737 other donations from any source to implement this section.
3838 Section 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
