66 AN ACT
77 relating to the first day of instruction of a school year for public
88 school students.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 25.0811, Education Code, is amended by
1111 adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
1212 (c) Notwithstanding Subsection (a), a board of trustees of a
1313 school district may elect for the school district to begin
1414 instruction for students for a school year on or after the third
1515 Wednesday in August if beginning instruction on or after the fourth
1616 Monday in August would result in five or fewer instructional days in
1717 the month of August.
1818 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016
1919 school year.
2020 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2121 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2222 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2323 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2424 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
