64 AN ACT
75 relating to making a voluntary contribution to the Special Olympics
86 Texas fund when registering a motor vehicle or renewing a motor

108 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
119 SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 502, Transportation Code,
1210 is amended by adding Section 502.413 to read as follows:
1311 Sec. 502.413. VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTION TO SPECIAL OLYMPICS
1412 TEXAS FUND. (a) When a person registers or renews the
1513 registration of a motor vehicle under this chapter, the person may
1614 contribute any amount to the Special Olympics Texas fund under
1715 Subsection (f).
1816 (b) The department shall provide, in a conspicuous manner,
1917 an opportunity to contribute to the Special Olympics Texas fund in
2018 any registration renewal system used by the department.
2119 (c) If a person makes a contribution under this section and
2220 does not pay the full amount of a registration fee, the county
2321 assessor-collector may credit all or a portion of the contribution
2422 to the person's registration fee.
2523 (d) The county assessor-collector shall send any
2624 contribution made under this section to the comptroller for deposit
2725 to the Special Olympics Texas fund before the 31st day after the
2826 date the contribution is made.
2927 (e) The department shall consult with the Department of
3028 Aging and Disability Services in performing the department's duties
3129 under this section.
3230 (f) The Special Olympics Texas fund is created as a trust
3331 fund outside the state treasury to be held by the comptroller and
3432 administered by the Department of Aging and Disability Services as
3533 trustee on behalf of Special Olympics Texas. The fund is composed
3634 of money deposited to the credit of the fund under this section.
3735 Money in the fund shall be disbursed at least monthly, without
3836 appropriation, to Special Olympics Texas to provide training and
3937 athletic competitions for persons with mental illness and
4038 intellectual disabilities.
4139 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect January 1, 2016.
