| 9 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Section 51.212, Education Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 11 | 9 | | amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (f) to read as |
|---|
| 12 | 10 | | follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 11 | | (b) Any officer commissioned under the provisions of this |
|---|
| 14 | 12 | | section is vested with all the powers, privileges, and immunities |
|---|
| 15 | 13 | | of peace officers if the officer: |
|---|
| 16 | 14 | | (1) is on the property under the control and |
|---|
| 17 | 15 | | jurisdiction of the respective private institution of higher |
|---|
| 18 | 16 | | education or is otherwise performing duties assigned to the officer |
|---|
| 19 | 17 | | by the institution, regardless of whether the officer is on |
|---|
| 20 | 18 | | property under the control and jurisdiction of the institution, but |
|---|
| 21 | 19 | | provided these duties are [consistent with the educational mission |
|---|
| 22 | 20 | | of the institution and are] being performed within a county in which |
|---|
| 23 | 21 | | the institution has land; or |
|---|
| 24 | 22 | | (2) to the extent authorized by Section 51.2125, is: |
|---|
| 25 | 23 | | (A) requested by another law enforcement agency |
|---|
| 26 | 24 | | to provide assistance in enforcing state or local law, including a |
|---|
| 27 | 25 | | municipal ordinance, and is acting in response to that request; or |
|---|
| 28 | 26 | | (B) otherwise assisting another law enforcement |
|---|
| 29 | 27 | | agency in enforcing a law described by Paragraph (A). |
|---|
| 30 | 28 | | (f) A campus police department of a private institution of |
|---|
| 31 | 29 | | higher education is a law enforcement agency and a governmental |
|---|
| 32 | 30 | | body for purposes of Chapter 552, Government Code, only with |
|---|
| 33 | 31 | | respect to information relating solely to law enforcement |
|---|
| 34 | 32 | | activities. |
|---|
| 35 | 33 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
