55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to a study and recommendations by the Texas Judicial
88 Council on consolidating the court of criminal appeals and the
99 supreme court or abolishing one of the courts and transferring that
1010 court's functions and jurisdiction to the other court.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. STUDY AND RECOMMENDATIONS. The Texas Judicial
1313 Council shall:
1414 (1) conduct a study and make recommendations regarding
1515 whether it is advisable for the court of criminal appeals and the
1616 supreme court to be consolidated or for one court to be abolished
1717 and its functions and jurisdiction transferred to the other court;
1818 and
1919 (2) if the Texas Judicial Council recommends
2020 consolidating the courts or abolishing a court under Subdivision
2121 (1) of this section, develop and propose a transition plan to
2222 implement that recommendation.
2323 SECTION 2. REPORT. Not later than December 1, 2016, the
2424 Texas Judicial Council shall report the council's findings and
2525 recommendations required by this Act to the governor and the
2626 members of the legislature. The report must include the Texas
2727 Judicial Council's proposed transition plan, if applicable,
2828 required by Section 1(2) of this Act.
2929 SECTION 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect September
3030 1, 2015.
