77 relating to designating English as the official language of this

99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. The heading to Chapter 3101, Government Code, is
1111 amended to read as follows:
1212 CHAPTER 3101. STATE SYMBOLS AND LANGUAGE
1313 SECTION 2. Chapter 3101, Government Code, is amended by
1414 designating Sections 3101.001 through 3101.012 as Subchapter A and
1515 adding a subchapter heading to read as follows:
1616 SUBCHAPTER A. STATE SYMBOLS
1717 SECTION 3. Chapter 3101, Government Code, is amended by
1818 adding Subchapter B to read as follows:
1919 SUBCHAPTER B. OFFICIAL LANGUAGE
2020 Sec. 3101.051. OFFICIAL LANGUAGE. The English language is
2121 designated as the official language of this state.
2222 Sec. 3101.052. STATE DOCUMENTS AND MATERIALS. (a) In this
2323 section, "state agency" means a department, commission, board,
2424 office, council, authority, or other agency in the executive,
2525 judicial, or legislative branch of state government that is created
2626 by the constitution or a statute of this state, including a
2727 university system or institution of higher education as defined by
2828 Section 61.003, Education Code.
2929 (b) Except as otherwise provided by law, including the
3030 federal Voting Rights Act (42 U.S.C. Section 1973c et seq.), a state
3131 agency may not provide documents, publish written materials, or
3232 provide website content in any language other than the official
3333 language of this state.
3434 SECTION 4. Section 2054.116, Government Code, is repealed.
3535 SECTION 5. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
