| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 28.008(d), Education Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (d) The State Board of Education shall incorporate college |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | readiness standards and expectations approved by the commissioner |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | of education and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | under Subsection (b) into the essential knowledge and skills |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | identified by the board under Section 28.002(c). The State Board of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Education shall develop and by rule adopt a chart that clearly |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | indicates the alignment of the college readiness standards and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | expectations with the essential knowledge and skills identified by |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the board under Subsection (c). |

| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 2. Not later than January 1, 2016, the State Board |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | of Education shall adopt a chart as prescribed by Section |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | 28.008(d), Education Code, as amended by this Act. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
