77 relating to designation of an employee within certain state
88 agencies as a veteran's liaison.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. The heading to Chapter 657, Government Code, is
1111 amended to read as follows:
1212 CHAPTER 657. VETERAN'S EMPLOYMENT PREFERENCES; VETERAN'S LIAISON
1313 SECTION 2. Chapter 657, Government Code, is amended by
1414 adding Section 657.011 to read as follows:
1515 Sec. 657.011. VETERAN'S LIAISON. (a) In this section:
1616 (1) "State agency" means a board, commission, council,
1717 committee, department, office, agency, or other governmental
1818 entity in the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of state
1919 government, including an institution of higher education as defined
2020 by Section 61.003, Education Code.
2121 (2) "Veteran" has the meaning assigned by Section
2222 657.002(c).
2323 (b) Each state agency with more than 100 full-time
2424 employees, using existing resources, shall designate a full-time
2525 employee of the agency to serve as the veteran's liaison for the
2626 agency.
2727 (c) The veteran's liaison shall:
2828 (1) stay informed on trends and developments in
2929 hiring veterans for positions within the agency and of services
3030 available to veterans within and outside the agency;
3131 (2) recruit veterans for open positions within the
3232 agency; and
3333 (3) serve as the contact for veterans within and
3434 outside the agency to provide information about the agency and
3535 veteran's employment and services available within and outside the
3636 agency.
3737 SECTION 3. Not later than December 1, 2015, each state
3838 agency with more than 100 full-time employees shall designate a
3939 full-time employee of the agency to serve as the veteran's liaison
4040 for the agency as required by Section 657.011, Government Code, as
4141 added by this Act.
4242 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
