5- A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
64 AN ACT
75 relating to the oath of a person admitted to practice law in the
86 State of Texas.
97 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
108 SECTION 1. Section 82.037(a), Government Code, is amended
119 to read as follows:
1210 (a) Each person admitted to practice law shall, before
1311 receiving a license, take an oath that the person will:
1412 (1) support the constitutions of the United States and
1513 this state;
1614 (2) honestly demean oneself [himself] in the practice
1715 of law; [and]
1816 (3) discharge the attorney's duty to the attorney's
1917 [his] client to the best of the attorney's ability; and
2018 (4) conduct oneself with integrity and civility in
2119 dealing and communicating with the court and all parties.
2220 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2321 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2422 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2523 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2624 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
