8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 458.001(4), Transportation Code, is | |
10 | 10 | amended to read as follows: | |
11 | 11 | (4) "Urban transit district" means: | |
12 | 12 | (A) a local governmental body or political | |
13 | 13 | subdivision of this state that operates a public transportation | |
14 | 14 | system in an urbanized area: | |
15 | 15 | (i) with a population of more than 50,000 | |
16 | 16 | but less than 200,000; or | |
17 | 17 | (ii) that is located on a barrier island and | |
18 | 18 | has a population of more than 45,000 but less than 50,000; and | |
19 | 19 | (B) [. The term includes] a small urban | |
20 | 20 | transportation provider under Chapter 456 that on September 1, | |
21 | 21 | 1994, received public transportation money through the department. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
