 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to bonuses for teachers of students who perform
 successfully on college advanced placement tests and international
 baccalaureate examinations.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Section 28.053, Education Code, is amended by
 amending Subsections (d), (e), and (f) and adding Subsection (d-1)
 to read as follows:
 (d)  In addition to any portion of a school award distributed
 to the teacher in accordance with a plan developed under Subsection
 (c), a [A] teacher participating in the program:
 (1)  may be awarded:
 (A) [(1)]  subsidized teacher training, not to
 exceed $450 for each teacher, for a college advanced placement
 course or an international baccalaureate course; and
 (B) [(2)]  a one-time award of $250 for teaching a
 college advanced placement course or an international
 baccalaureate course for the first time; and
 (2)  shall be awarded a bonus in the amount specified by
 Subsection (d-1) for each student in a college advanced placement
 course or international baccalaureate course taught by the teacher
 who performs at the level specified by Subsection (a)(2) on a
 college advanced placement test or international baccalaureate
 examination
 [(3) a share of the teacher bonus pool, which shall be
 distributed by the teacher's school in shares proportional to the
 number of courses taught].
 (d-1)  Except as otherwise provided by this subsection, a
 teacher shall be awarded a bonus under Subsection (d)(2) of $50 for
 each of the teacher's students who performs at the level specified
 by Subsection (a)(2), not to exceed a total bonus of $2,000 each
 year. A teacher who provides instruction at a campus with an
 unacceptable performance rating under Section 39.054 shall be
 awarded a bonus of $500 for the first student who performs at the
 required level and $50 for each additional student who performs at
 that level, not to exceed a total bonus of $2,000 each year.
 (e)  To be eligible for an award under Subsection (d) or (f),
 a teacher must teach a college advanced placement course or an
 international baccalaureate course.
 (f)  From the school awards authorized under Subsection
 (a)(2), $50 [Fifty dollars] may be deposited in the teacher bonus
 pool for each student enrolled in the school who [that] scores a
 three or better on a college advanced placement test or four or
 better on an international baccalaureate examination. Any money
 placed in the teacher bonus pool shall be distributed by the
 teacher's school to teachers participating in the program in shares
 proportional to the number of courses taught.
 SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
