64 AN ACT
75 relating to a requirement that the General Land Office conduct a
86 study regarding the use of wind or solar power to desalinate
97 brackish groundwater.
108 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
119 SECTION 1. DEFINITIONS. In this Act:
1210 (1) "Development board" means the Texas Water
1311 Development Board.
1412 (2) "Land office" means the General Land Office.
1513 SECTION 2. STUDY. (a) The land office in consultation
1614 with the development board shall conduct a study regarding the use
1715 of wind or solar power to desalinate brackish groundwater on real
1816 property owned by the state.
1917 (b) The land office and the development board may request
2018 data from any state agency in conducting the study. An agency
2119 receiving a request under this subsection shall provide the
2220 requested data.
2321 (c) The land office may coordinate with a research division
2422 of a university in conducting the study.
2523 SECTION 3. REPORT. (a) Not later than December 31, 2016,
2624 the land office shall report the results of the study conducted
2725 under this Act to the governor and the legislature.
2826 (b) The report described by this section may not disclose
2927 information that is excepted from the requirements of Section
3028 552.021, Government Code.
3129 SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect
3230 immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members
3331 elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas
3432 Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for
3533 immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
