9 | 9 | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is amended by | |
11 | 11 | adding Section 74 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 74. Notwithstanding any other provision of this | |
13 | 13 | constitution, including provisions prescribing exclusive | |
14 | 14 | eligibility requirements to hold a public elective office in this | |
15 | 15 | state, the legislature shall provide by general law that a | |
16 | 16 | candidate for public elective office in this state must submit to a | |
17 | 17 | controlled substance use screening assessment. | |
18 | 18 | SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | |
19 | 19 | submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2015. | |
20 | 20 | The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the | |
21 | 21 | proposition: "The constitutional amendment mandating the | |
22 | 22 | legislature to require candidates for public elective office in | |
23 | 23 | this state to undergo drug screening." |
