55 A JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment mandating the legislature to
77 require candidates for public elective office in this state to
88 undergo drug screening.
99 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1111 adding Section 74 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 74. Notwithstanding any other provision of this
1313 constitution, including provisions prescribing exclusive
1414 eligibility requirements to hold a public elective office in this
1515 state, the legislature shall provide by general law that a
1616 candidate for public elective office in this state must submit to a
1717 controlled substance use screening assessment.
1818 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
1919 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2015.
2020 The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the
2121 proposition: "The constitutional amendment mandating the
2222 legislature to require candidates for public elective office in
2323 this state to undergo drug screening."
