 A  JOINT RESOLUTION
 proposing a constitutional amendment providing for retention
 elections for police chiefs of certain municipalities.
 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Article V, Texas Constitution, is amended by
 adding Section 22 to read as follows:
 Sec. 22.  A person appointed as the police chief of a
 municipality shall be subject to nonpartisan elections to determine
 whether the person shall retain the office at times prescribed by
 the legislature. The duties, qualifications, perquisites, and
 terms of the office may be prescribed by the legislature. This
 section applies only to a municipality having a population of more
 than 5,000.
 SECTION 2.  This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2015.
 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
 proposition: "The constitutional amendment providing for
 retention elections for police chiefs of certain municipalities."
