SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1071
WHEREAS, Each year, April 23 is celebrated by more than
half a million Turkish-Americans as Turkish National Sovereignty
and Children's Day; and
WHEREAS, On this day 95 years ago, the Turkish Grand
National Assembly, or Parliament, was established in a historic
move that paved the road to greater freedom, justice, and peace
for the Turkish people; and
WHEREAS, April 23 has been observed as Turkish National Day
since 1921; the day has also been celebrated since 1927 as
Children's Day, a tradition that highlights the important role
that future generations play in the realization of the Turkish
dream for peace, progress, and prosperity; and
WHEREAS, Since its establishment, the Turkish Republic has
demonstrated its commitment to universally held values as well as
to its long-term strategic alliance with the United States of
America; and
WHEREAS, Modern Turkey ranks among the world's
fastest-growing emerging markets and remains an important ally
for the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization
in a vast region that stretches from Eastern Europe and North
Africa to the Middle East and Central Asia; and
WHEREAS, In less than a century of immigration to this
country, Turkish-Americans have left a unique imprint on the
diverse cultural spectrum of our nation and have contributed to
America's advancement in the fields of business, science,
medicine, technology, and arts; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
Legislature, hereby extend warm greetings and best wishes to all
who are celebrating Turkish National Sovereignty and Children's
Day and recognize April 23, 2015, as Turkish-American Day in
Texas; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared to
commemorate this special occasion.
