SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 108 WHEREAS, The mission of the YMCA is to build strong children, strong families, and strong communities through programs that develop healthy spirits, minds, and bodies; and WHEREAS, The Texas State Alliance of YMCAs is an association representing the interests and concerns of the 27 independent YMCAs across Texas; and WHEREAS, The Texas State Alliance of YMCAs mobilizes staff, volunteers, and community leaders to advocate on behalf of local YMCAs to promote their efforts in the areas of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility; efforts in these three areas of focus include nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving the state's health and well-being, and giving back and providing support to neighbors and communities regardless of income or inability to pay; and WHEREAS, More than 5,000 employees and nearly 50,000 volunteers serve more than 1.4 million Texans through programs of the Texas YMCAs, including more than 638,000 children and teens; and WHEREAS, Collectively, YMCAs are the nation's largest provider of child care, and in Texas, the YMCAs give over $25 million in financial assistance and scholarships to citizens across the state; WHEREAS, The Texas State Alliance of YMCAs Advocacy Day is a statewide annual event celebrating strong communities and encouraging Texas leadership to promote healthy living policies that can become lifelong practices for all Texans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby recognize February 11, 2015, as YMCA Advocacy Day at the State Capitol and extend sincere appreciation to all those who participate in promoting a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
