| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the citizens of Rowlett and Texans across the state in |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | celebrating February 12, 2015, as Rowlett Day at the State |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Capitol; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Rowlett is located on the shore of Lake Ray Hubbard |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | in Dallas and Rockwall Counties and is named for Daniel Rowlett, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | who led a group of families from Tennessee to the North Texas area |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | in 1835; under the direction of two immigration companies, the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | W. S. Peters Colony and the Charles Mercer Colony, settlers |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | arrived in the present-day Rowlett area in the 1840s; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The first post office opened in 1880, and the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | westward expansion of the railroads brought many more people to |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the area; by the turn of the century, Rowlett was a prosperous |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | farming community with numerous stores and services, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | citizens voted in 1952 to incorporate; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Today, Rowlett is a thriving city of more than 55,000 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | residents; with more than 30 miles of shoreline, it is one of the most |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | scenic places to live in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex; its |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | small-town atmosphere, its abundance of recreational opportunities, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and its proximity to the amenities of city life make it an |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | exceptional place in which to live, work, and raise a family; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The people of Rowlett have made many outstanding |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | contributions to the growth and prosperity of our state, and it is |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | truly fitting that the city be recognized; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby welcome the delegation from Rowlett to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Austin and extend to them best wishes for a memorable Rowlett Day |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | at the State Capitol; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 31 | 31 | | the city as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
