11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 118
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 welcome the delegation from Tarrant County and join in the
44 celebration of Tarrant County Days at the State Capitol on
55 February 25 and 26, 2015; and
66 WHEREAS, Tarrant County was created in 1849 as one of 26
77 counties formed from the Peters Colony; it is named for General
88 Edward H. Tarrant of the Republic of Texas Militia, and its
99 county seat is Fort Worth; and
1010 WHEREAS, What began as a frontier community has evolved
1111 into a modern center for business, education, and world-class
1212 culture; the 2010 census recorded 1,809,034 residents in Tarrant
1313 County, making it the third most populous county in Texas and the
1414 16th most populous county in the nation; the county has 41
1515 incorporated municipalities and is served by 20 outstanding
1616 public school districts; and
1717 WHEREAS, Tarrant County has many entertainment and tourist
1818 attractions that draw visitors from around the world; families
1919 enjoy Six Flags Over Texas, the Fort Worth Zoo, and Cowboys
2020 Stadium as well as exemplary museums, including the Kimbell Art
2121 Museum and the Amon G. Carter Museum, which showcase outstanding
2222 collections of classic and American art; other area attractions
2323 include historic downtown Grapevine, the shops at Grapevine
2424 Mills, Southlake Town Square, Sundance Square, and the Fort Worth
2525 Stockyards; and
2626 WHEREAS, Tarrant County is also home to many excellent
2727 institutions of higher education, which provide opportunities
2828 for a variety of students and produce a highly educated
2929 workforce; these institutions include The University of Texas at
3030 Arlington, the University of North Texas Health Science Center at
3131 Fort Worth, Texas Christian University, Tarrant County College,
3232 the College of Saint Thomas More, Arlington Baptist College,
3333 Trinity Valley Baptist Seminary and College, Tarleton State
3434 University--Fort Worth, and Texas Wesleyan University; and
3535 WHEREAS, The county's diverse and prosperous business
3636 community ranges from cattle ranching to small businesses to
3737 multinational corporations and includes leaders in the defense,
3838 aerospace, and transportation industries; Dallas/Fort Worth
3939 International Airport, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort
4040 Worth, and the Alliance Airport all contribute to the regional
4141 and state economy; and
4242 WHEREAS, The visiting Tarrant County delegation of civic,
4343 academic, and business leaders is headed by County Judge B. Glen
4444 Whitley and County Commissioners Roy C. Brooks, Andy H. Nguyen,
4545 Gary Fickes, and J. D. Johnson; and
4646 WHEREAS, The people of Tarrant County have worked hard to
4747 build and sustain their vibrant community, and they can be justly
4848 proud of their rich history, their many achievements, and their
4949 enduring public spirit; now, therefore, be it
5050 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
5151 Legislature, hereby recognize February 25 and 26, 2015, as
5252 Tarrant County Days at the State Capitol and extend to the
5353 visiting delegation sincere best wishes for a meaningful and
5454 enjoyable visit to Austin; and, be it further
5555 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
5656 honor of this special occasion.
