| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Honorable Ray Holbrook, who is the recipient of a |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Texas A&M University 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Well known for his many contributions to his |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | community and state, Ray Holbrook served the citizens of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Galveston County with distinction for nearly three decades as a |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | county judge; he began his career by serving as a chemical |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | engineer with the Monsanto Company, and after earning a law |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | degree from the University of Houston, he served as a patent |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | attorney; he also served for six years as a member of the State |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Board of Education; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, While a student at Texas A&M University, he was a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | member of the Corps of Cadets and the Fighting Aggie Band; a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | standout athlete, he was a four-year letterman in track and set a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Southwest Conference record in the 440-yard dash; in addition, he |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | was a member of the 1948 national championship mile relay team; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, He was inducted into the university's Athletic |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Hall of Fame in 1983, and on October 10, 2014, he was named the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | recipient of the Texas A&M Distinguished Alumni Award, the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | highest honor bestowed by the Association of Former Students of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Texas A&M University; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Judge Holbrook has had a profound impact on the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | growth and prosperity of Galveston County and our state, and it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | is truly fitting that he receive special recognition for his many |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend Ray Holbrook on his exceptional |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | contributions to his community and state and extend |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | congratulations to him on receiving a Texas A&M University 2014 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Distinguished Alumni Award; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
