11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 12
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize the Honorable Ray Holbrook, who is the recipient of a
44 Texas A&M University 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award; and
55 WHEREAS, Well known for his many contributions to his
66 community and state, Ray Holbrook served the citizens of
77 Galveston County with distinction for nearly three decades as a
88 county judge; he began his career by serving as a chemical
99 engineer with the Monsanto Company, and after earning a law
1010 degree from the University of Houston, he served as a patent
1111 attorney; he also served for six years as a member of the State
1212 Board of Education; and
1313 WHEREAS, While a student at Texas A&M University, he was a
1414 member of the Corps of Cadets and the Fighting Aggie Band; a
1515 standout athlete, he was a four-year letterman in track and set a
1616 Southwest Conference record in the 440-yard dash; in addition, he
1717 was a member of the 1948 national championship mile relay team; and
1818 WHEREAS, He was inducted into the university's Athletic
1919 Hall of Fame in 1983, and on October 10, 2014, he was named the
2020 recipient of the Texas A&M Distinguished Alumni Award, the
2121 highest honor bestowed by the Association of Former Students of
2222 Texas A&M University; and
2323 WHEREAS, Judge Holbrook has had a profound impact on the
2424 growth and prosperity of Galveston County and our state, and it
2525 is truly fitting that he receive special recognition for his many
2626 achievements; now, therefore, be it
2727 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
2828 Legislature, hereby commend Ray Holbrook on his exceptional
2929 contributions to his community and state and extend
3030 congratulations to him on receiving a Texas A&M University 2014
3131 Distinguished Alumni Award; and, be it further
3232 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3333 him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
