5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Dr. Eugene Paul Schoch |
---|
7 | 7 | | Jr., who died January 20, 2015, at the age of 91; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Eugene Paul Schoch Jr. was born on September 24, |
---|
9 | 9 | | 1923, in Austin; he met Eugenia Worley, the love of his life, |
---|
10 | 10 | | while a young student at Austin High School, and they married in |
---|
11 | 11 | | 1944; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, His father was a chemical engineering professor |
---|
13 | 13 | | at The University of Texas at Austin and was renowned for |
---|
14 | 14 | | purchasing the instruments for the first Longhorn Band and |
---|
15 | 15 | | marching with them on the field; Eugene and Eugenia carried on |
---|
16 | 16 | | the tradition of the family's support by establishing an |
---|
17 | 17 | | endowment fund for the band and hosting band festivities in their |
---|
18 | 18 | | home; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Eugene graduated from The University of Texas |
---|
20 | 20 | | Medical Branch at Galveston and became a teaching medical fellow |
---|
21 | 21 | | at Minneapolis General Hospital; he served with distinction as a |
---|
22 | 22 | | captain and as a dermatologist in the United States Army; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, He ran a successful dermatology practice in |
---|
24 | 24 | | Austin for fifty-two years, during which time, his medical |
---|
25 | 25 | | research was often published; he was a respected leader in his |
---|
26 | 26 | | field and was a member of numerous professional organizations; he |
---|
27 | 27 | | was asked to lecture at institutions around the country; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A loving husband, father, and grandfather, |
---|
29 | 29 | | Dr. Schoch cherished time spent with his family; he was a man of |
---|
30 | 30 | | many interests and talents who lived his life to the fullest, and |
---|
31 | 31 | | he was a devout Christian and a longtime member of University |
---|
32 | 32 | | United Methodist Church; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, He was beloved by many, and he will long be |
---|
34 | 34 | | remembered with affection and appreciation by all who were |
---|
35 | 35 | | privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
37 | 37 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
38 | 38 | | family of Dr. Eugene Paul Schoch Jr.; and, be it further |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
40 | 40 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
41 | 41 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
