| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The celebration of Lufkin-Angelina County Day at |

| 3 | 3 | | the Capitol on February 11, 2015, provides a fitting opportunity |

| 4 | 4 | | to recognize this outstanding part of the Lone Star State and to |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | welcome visitors from the area, including members of the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Lufkin/Angelina Chamber of Commerce and of the Leadership Lufkin |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Class of 2014-2015; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Organized in 1846, Angelina County was named for |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | a Hainai Indian maiden who is said to have aided Spanish |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | missionaries living in the area around 1690; the county is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | situated in the Texas Forest Country, in a region nestled |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | between the Angelina River on the north and the Neches River on |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the south; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Since the arrival of the railroads in the 1880s, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Angelina County has consistently benefited from a thriving |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | lumber business, and over the years, a variety of other |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | industries have flourished as well, including farming and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | manufacturing; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Angelina County has long been an area rich in |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | natural and cultural resources, and residents enjoy a wealth of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | recreational opportunities; the county is home to the Angelina |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | National Forest, and the region's largest lake, the Sam Rayburn |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Reservoir, offers superior bass fishing and an outlet for |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | swimming and boating; moreover, the county seat of Lufkin |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | features such compelling attractions as the Texas Forestry |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Museum, the Museum of East Texas, and the Ellen Trout Zoo; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Lufkin and Angelina County have become the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | regional hub for medical, retail, and government offices in a |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 12-county region of East Texas, and it gives the members of this |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | chamber great pleasure to honor the many significant |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | contributions of this fine Texas county and city to our state; |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |

| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 11, 2015, as |

| 35 | 35 | | Lufkin-Angelina County Day at the Capitol and extend best wishes |

| 36 | 36 | | to the visiting delegation; and, be it further |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
