5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of Jacksboro in mourning the loss of Luther G. Prunty, |
---|
7 | 7 | | who died January 8, 2015, at the age of 102; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Luther Prunty was born on January 11, 1912, in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Jack County; he graduated from Jacksboro High School in 1932, and |
---|
10 | 10 | | after high school, he worked as a cowboy in Muleshoe and was |
---|
11 | 11 | | inspired to pursue a ranching career; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, He served with distinction in the United States |
---|
13 | 13 | | Army and was a member of the Lost Battalion; captured by the |
---|
14 | 14 | | Japanese in the days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he was |
---|
15 | 15 | | released after spending three and one-half years in a prison |
---|
16 | 16 | | camp; upon his return, he and other prisoners of war were honored |
---|
17 | 17 | | by President Harry Truman at the White House; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, After his service, Mr. Prunty returned to Jack |
---|
19 | 19 | | County and began his ranching career; in June of 1947, he married |
---|
20 | 20 | | the love of his life, Dorothy Dodson; they raised two daughters |
---|
21 | 21 | | and were later blessed with two grandchildren and three |
---|
22 | 22 | | great-grandchildren; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Luther loved his hometown and Jack County; he was |
---|
24 | 24 | | active in numerous veterans organizations and was a member of the |
---|
25 | 25 | | First Methodist Church and the Lions Club; he also served terms |
---|
26 | 26 | | as the Jack County tax collector and assessor and the Jack County |
---|
27 | 27 | | auditor; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Luther Prunty was a kind man who gave willingly of |
---|
29 | 29 | | his time to others; he was respected and admired by many, and he |
---|
30 | 30 | | leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by all who |
---|
31 | 31 | | were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
34 | 34 | | family of Luther G. Prunty; and, be it further |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
36 | 36 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
37 | 37 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
38 | 38 | | memory of Luther G. Prunty. |
