44 Luther G. Prunty
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Jacksboro in mourning the loss of Luther G. Prunty,
77 who died January 8, 2015, at the age of 102; and
88 WHEREAS, Luther Prunty was born on January 11, 1912, in
99 Jack County; he graduated from Jacksboro High School in 1932, and
1010 after high school, he worked as a cowboy in Muleshoe and was
1111 inspired to pursue a ranching career; and
1212 WHEREAS, He served with distinction in the United States
1313 Army and was a member of the Lost Battalion; captured by the
1414 Japanese in the days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he was
1515 released after spending three and one-half years in a prison
1616 camp; upon his return, he and other prisoners of war were honored
1717 by President Harry Truman at the White House; and
1818 WHEREAS, After his service, Mr. Prunty returned to Jack
1919 County and began his ranching career; in June of 1947, he married
2020 the love of his life, Dorothy Dodson; they raised two daughters
2121 and were later blessed with two grandchildren and three
2222 great-grandchildren; and
2323 WHEREAS, Luther loved his hometown and Jack County; he was
2424 active in numerous veterans organizations and was a member of the
2525 First Methodist Church and the Lions Club; he also served terms
2626 as the Jack County tax collector and assessor and the Jack County
2727 auditor; and
2828 WHEREAS, Luther Prunty was a kind man who gave willingly of
2929 his time to others; he was respected and admired by many, and he
3030 leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by all who
3131 were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3333 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3434 family of Luther G. Prunty; and, be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3636 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3737 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3838 memory of Luther G. Prunty.
