11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 150
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize the members of the Hood County Long Term Recovery
44 Committee for their exemplary work in the aftermath of a tornado
55 that struck the Rancho Brazos community on May 15, 2013; and
66 WHEREAS, The Hood County Long Term Recovery Committee was
77 formed by a group of concerned citizens who had no prior
88 experience in disaster recovery; faced with the devastation of an
99 EF4 tornado that destroyed 100 homes and killed six people, these
1010 citizens studied the issues surrounding the tragedy and worked in
1111 a variety of ways to help those displaced by the storm; and
1212 WHEREAS, The dedicated volunteers selflessly performed a
1313 wide variety of tasks to help people recover; they procured
1414 modular housing from Fort Hood, rebuilt homes, and wrote grants
1515 for recovery funding; due to their tireless efforts, victims were
1616 able to be reinstated in homes approximately six months earlier
1717 than after most disasters; and
1818 WHEREAS, Numerous local organizations and businesses played a
1919 vital role in the recovery efforts, including the United Way of Hood
2020 County, Mission Granbury, the United Methodist Committee on Relief,
2121 Texas Neighborhood Services, Central Texas Title, First National
2222 Bank, and churches of all denominations; and
2323 WHEREAS, Thanks to the unstinting and generous work of the
2424 Hood County Long Term Recovery Committee, the victims of the 2013
2525 tornado have been able to begin putting their lives back together; it
2626 is truly fitting the members of the committee receive special
2727 recognition for their outstanding work; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
2929 Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Hood County Long Term
3030 Recovery Committee on their dedication and hard work and extend to
3131 all best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
3232 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3333 the committee as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
