SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 154 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the world famous Kilgore College Rangerettes on the memorable occasion of the organization's 75th anniversary; and WHEREAS, On September 19, 1940, Gussie Nell Davis brought show business to the gridiron when the Kilgore College Rangerettes made their debut at the R. E. Saint John Memorial Stadium and laid the foundation for modern halftime entertainment; and WHEREAS, The Rangerettes introduced the dance drill concept, which combined the precision movement of marching drill with the grace and charm of dance; they soon became a national treasure and an example of excellence for the many dance drill teams that would emulate their spirited performances; and WHEREAS, Since the Rangerettes' debut 75 years ago, dance drill performances have evolved into a global business of resounding proportion; the art form is a source of more than 50,000 jobs and generates $4 billion in gross domestic product each year; and WHEREAS, Members of this pioneering drill team serve as ambassadors of the state and the nation at events across the globe and serve as positive role models for young women everywhere; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby commend the current and former members of the Kilgore College Rangerettes for upholding a proud and longstanding tradition and extend to all congratulations on the team's 75th anniversary; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
