2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Jesse W. Rogers is retiring as president of |

3 | 3 | | Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls on August 31, 2015, |
---|
4 | 4 | | drawing to a close nearly half a century of exemplary service to |
---|
5 | 5 | | that institution; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Rogers joined Midwestern State University as |
---|
7 | 7 | | an assistant professor of chemistry in 1967, and he became chair |
---|
8 | 8 | | of the chemistry department three years later; in 1978, he was |
---|
9 | 9 | | named the university's vice president for academic affairs, and |
---|
10 | 10 | | he continued to teach courses in chemistry; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding educator was appointed Midwestern |
---|
12 | 12 | | State University's 10th president in 2001, and over the past 14 years |
---|
13 | 13 | | he has proven to be a dynamic leader, earning the admiration of |
---|
14 | 14 | | faculty, staff, and students alike; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A highly respected figure in his field, Dr. Rogers |
---|
16 | 16 | | has worked closely with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating |
---|
17 | 17 | | Board, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and the |
---|
18 | 18 | | Council of Public University Presidents and Chancellors; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his other responsibilities, |
---|
20 | 20 | | Dr. Rogers has found time to give back to his community as a |
---|
21 | 21 | | member of the Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce and of the boards |
---|
22 | 22 | | of the Erle and Emma White Hospice Endowment Trust, the Texas |
---|
23 | 23 | | Specialty Hospital at Wichita Falls, and the Sheppard Air Force |
---|
24 | 24 | | Base Heritage Center; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Dr. Rogers has enjoyed the love |
---|
26 | 26 | | and support of his family, which includes his wife, Dr. Karen Rogers, |
---|
27 | 27 | | his two daughters, his son-in-law, and his granddaughter; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, For 48 years, the dedication, professionalism, |
---|
29 | 29 | | and commitment to excellence demonstrated by Dr. Jesse Rogers |
---|
30 | 30 | | have greatly benefited Midwestern State University, and he may |
---|
31 | 31 | | indeed reflect with pride on a distinguished career as he embarks |
---|
32 | 32 | | upon the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Dr. Jesse W. Rogers on his |
---|
35 | 35 | | retirement as president of Midwestern State University and extend to |
---|
36 | 36 | | him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

38 | 38 | | Dr. Rogers as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
