| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Southwestern University on the grand occasion of its |

| 4 | 4 | | 175th anniversary, which was celebrated on February 5, 2015; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1840, Southwestern University was |

| 6 | 6 | | the first institution of higher education chartered in Texas, and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | today, it is recognized as one of the state's leading |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | undergraduate liberal arts and sciences universities; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Throughout its proud history, this distinguished |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | university has promoted values and actions that encourage |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | contributions to the well-being of humanity, and its professors |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | have remained committed to this philosophy and to balancing the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | highest levels of scholarship with dedication to the art of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | teaching; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The school's list of illustrious alumni includes |

| 16 | 16 | | United States senators, college presidents, Supreme Court |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | justices, and bishops, and many graduates have moved on to become |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | prominent doctors, ministers, attorneys, and community leaders; and |

| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, For 175 years, Southwestern University has been |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | engaging minds and transforming lives, and this special |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | anniversary presents an opportunity to reflect on the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | university's outstanding contributions to the citizens of our |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | state; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby commend Southwestern University on 175 years |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | of educational excellence and extend sincere best wishes to all |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | associated with this premier institution; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
