11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 168
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize February 24, 2015, as Texas Grammy Music Day at the
44 Capitol; and
55 WHEREAS, Texas' unique musical heritage has enriched the
66 state, the nation, and the world; the birthplace of distinctive
77 musical styles such as Texas Country and Tejano, Texas has a rich
88 history of producing culturally significant artists and
99 musicians from every musical genre; and
1010 WHEREAS, The Recording Academy, the organization responsible
1111 for the Grammy Awards, established a Texas chapter to serve the
1212 Texas music community in 1998; artists and music professionals
1313 from Texas were nominated for 35 awards and won 13 awards at the
1414 57th Annual Grammy Awards; and
1515 WHEREAS, The Texas Music Office was created by the Texas
1616 Legislature to promote and support the state's music industry;
1717 live music festivals in Texas generate hundreds of millions of
1818 dollars annually in economic activity for the state, and nearly
1919 150,000 jobs in the state are estimated to be tied to the music
2020 industry; now, therefore, be it
2121 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
2222 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the music industry and the
2323 important role it plays in the lives of Texans and proclaim
2424 February 24, 2015, Texas Grammy Music Day at the Capitol; and, be
2525 it further
2626 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
2727 honor of the music industry in Texas and as an expression of
2828 esteem from the Texas Senate.
