                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 169
 In Memory
 of
 Jeanette Warfield
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Jeanette Warfield, who
 died January 23, 2015, at the age of 73; and
 WHEREAS, Jeanette Warfield was born on March 6, 1941, in
 Detroit, Michigan; she met her husband, the late Dr. John
 Warfield, while attending Western Michigan University, and they
 married in 1964; they were blessed with a son, Jabari, a
 daughter, Njeri, and a grandson; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Warfield served with distinction as an
 employee of the state; her career included working for the Office
 of the Comptroller of Public Accounts, the Texas Department of
 Health, and the Texas House of Representatives; and
 WHEREAS, She and her husband were cofounders of radio
 station KAZI-FM, one of the first listener-supported radio
 stations in the country to address issues affecting African
 Americans; it has grown to become a prominent part of Austin's
 radio community and to have a profound impact on racial equality
 and social justice in the region; and
 WHEREAS, She was active in a number of civic initiatives,
 such as Project Breast CARE of the Alliance for African American
 Health in Central Texas, through which she helped many women
 obtain free mammograms; she was an avid golfer and won numerous
 local and regional tournaments; and
 WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she
 gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, her generous spirit,
 and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be
 forgotten; and
 WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and
 she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by all
 who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Jeanette Warfield; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Jeanette Warfield.
