5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Lawrence Dean Cobb, who died January 31, |
---|
7 | 7 | | 2015, at the age of 78; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Dean Cobb was born on May 16, 1936, in Marlin, to |
---|
9 | 9 | | Lawrence Morgan Cobb and Ruth Day Bladen; he attended The |
---|
10 | 10 | | University of Texas at Austin on a track scholarship and |
---|
11 | 11 | | graduated in 1958; he went on to earn a degree from Baylor Law |
---|
12 | 12 | | School; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, He began his legal career in Dumas as a partner in |
---|
14 | 14 | | the firm of Lovell, Lyle and Cobb; he served for a time as Moore |
---|
15 | 15 | | County Attorney before his election to the Texas House of |
---|
16 | 16 | | Representatives, where he served with distinction for three |
---|
17 | 17 | | terms; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, After his service in the Texas Legislature, he |
---|
19 | 19 | | relocated to Austin and became a resident partner with Bracewell |
---|
20 | 20 | | and Patterson; he later entered private practice and advocated |
---|
21 | 21 | | for numerous clients' interests before the Texas Legislature; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, A veteran of the United States Army and the Texas |
---|
23 | 23 | | Army National Guard, he was active in a number of professional |
---|
24 | 24 | | and philanthropic organizations, including the Texas Union |
---|
25 | 25 | | Advisory Council; he was a life member of the Grand Lodge of |
---|
26 | 26 | | Texas, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, He was a man of courage, strength, and compassion |
---|
28 | 28 | | who gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, his generous |
---|
29 | 29 | | spirit, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest |
---|
30 | 30 | | will not be forgotten; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, |
---|
32 | 32 | | and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by |
---|
33 | 33 | | his family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
36 | 36 | | family of Lawrence Dean Cobb; and, be it further |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
38 | 38 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
39 | 39 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |

40 | 40 | | memory of Dean Cobb. |
