| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Trinity United Methodist Church, which is celebrating |

| 4 | 4 | | its 150th anniversary on March 1, 2015; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, This historic church was founded on March 5, 1865, by |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Elias Dibble; it was built on the corner of Travis and Bell Streets, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | where it stood until a fire destroyed it in 1946; many notable |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | institutions can trace their origins to the church, including Wiley |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | College, Emancipation Park, and Texas Southern University; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The church has stood proudly at its current location |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | on Holman and Oak Streets since 1951; the building's iconic |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | stained-glass windows depict religious history and serve as a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | beautiful monument to the civil rights movement; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Under the wise stewardship of its former pastors, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and with the outstanding leadership of its current pastor, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Dr. Robert E. McGee, Trinity United Methodist Church has continued |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | to grow and to play a vital role in the Houston community; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The commemoration of its 150th anniversary is an |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | opportunity to reflect on the church's rich history in the city |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and on the ministries it has established to the benefit of the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the members and clergy of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Trinity United Methodist Church for a memorable 150th anniversary |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | celebration; and, be it further |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
