SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 189 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join Houstonians and Texans across the state in celebrating February 18, 2015, as Indo-Americans of Greater Houston Day in Austin; and WHEREAS, The Greater Houston area is home to more than 100,000 people of Indian ancestry; this diverse community represents a wide range of languages, religions, and demographics, but it is united by the common bond of culture and ancestry; and WHEREAS, Indian Americans are among the most accomplished and prosperous immigrant groups in the country; their median household income is the highest of any ethnic group, and more than 70 percent have earned a college degree; and WHEREAS, Indian Americans in the Houston area are represented by a number of dedicated organizations, notably the Indo-American Political Action Committee, the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, the India Culture Center, the Indo-American Charity Foundation, and India House; and WHEREAS, Indian Americans play a significant role in the economic, educational, and cultural life of our state and nation; it is truly fitting that they receive special recognition for their many achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby welcome to the State Capitol the Indian American delegation from Houston and extend to its members best wishes for a productive and successful Indo-Americans of Greater Houston Day in Austin; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special occasion.
