| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join Houstonians and Texans across the state in celebrating |

| 4 | 4 | | February 18, 2015, as Indo-Americans of Greater Houston Day in |

| 5 | 5 | | Austin; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Greater Houston area is home to more than 100,000 |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | people of Indian ancestry; this diverse community represents a wide |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | range of languages, religions, and demographics, but it is united by |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the common bond of culture and ancestry; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Indian Americans are among the most accomplished |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and prosperous immigrant groups in the country; their median |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | household income is the highest of any ethnic group, and more |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | than 70 percent have earned a college degree; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Indian Americans in the Houston area are represented |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | by a number of dedicated organizations, notably the Indo-American |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Political Action Committee, the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the India Culture Center, the Indo-American Charity Foundation, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | India House; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Indian Americans play a significant role in the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | economic, educational, and cultural life of our state and nation; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | it is truly fitting that they receive special recognition for |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | their many achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby welcome to the State Capitol the Indian American |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | delegation from Houston and extend to its members best wishes for a |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | productive and successful Indo-Americans of Greater Houston Day |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | in Austin; and, be it further |
